Celtic sold four players over the £1m mark in the summer.

Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah were the biggest departures for a combined £23.5m, with Gustaf Lagerbielke coming up in third at £2.2m.

The Hoops signed the Swedish centre-back for £3m two years ago, so ultimately made an £800k loss on the player, which is rather unlike the club.

Lagerbielke wasn’t fancied by manager Brendan Rodgers and it was clear during the 2023/24 season that the defender had no long-term future in Glasgow.

He spent a period last campaign on loan at FC Twente, before securing a permanent switch to Braga in the summer.

Celtic will play Braga on Thursday in the Europa League and Lagerbielke is in line to face his former team.

So ahead of the big game, 67 Hail Hail take a look at how Lagerbielke has fared in Portugal so far this season.

How many games has Lagerbielke played for Braga?

Lagerbielke made his debut for Braga in the second qualifying round of the Europa League in July against Levski Sofia.

He played 68 minutes as Braga held a clean sheet, before going on to win the second leg 1-0 after extra-time.

Lagerbielke started every qualifying and play-off match – one of which at left-back – except the final one against Lincoln Red Imps, as Braga only conceded two goals in six.

In Liga Portugal games, Lagerbielke has started four of the six encounters so far. The Swede helped his new team to two wins and two clean sheets to start the campaign.

But it has been difficult since then, with Braga failing to win any of the next five matches in the league.

However, they kicked off their Europa League league phase journey with a 1-0 home win over Dutch giants Feyenoord, as Lagerbielke played the full 90 minutes.

All in all, the 25-year-old has 12 appearances under his belt thus far.

What do Braga fans think of Lagerbielke?

Life for Lagerbielke has been fairly good with regards to his relationship with the fans and how he is thought of.

Braga supporters generally think the £2.2m fee paid for him is fairly low risk considering he played many games for FC Twente in the Eredivisie last season.

Lagerbielke was also present at a Braga FanZone event a couple of weeks ago, which saw him mingle with supporters at a time when he was injured.

Supporters generally are not in the best mood at the moment due to the team’s league form, but that criticism hasn’t singled out Lagerbielke as such.

It’s early days for him at Braga, but as more time passes without a league win, the more toxic an environment it will become for the Swede.
