How all 10 Celtic loan exits fared across 2024/25 including Gustaf Lagerbielke & Marco Tilio

Celtic had a number of players out on loan for the 2024/25 season, with some deals struck in the summer and the rest in January and February.

After the January transfer window in 2024, the Hoops had as many as 13 players out on loan to either gain first-team experience or regular minutes due to limited opportunities under Brendan Rodgers.

That total number decreased slightly this campaign as Celtic came out of the 2025 winter window with their first-team and academy squads trimmed.

Now that league seasons across the globe have been wrapped up, how did Celtic’s loan players fare at their respective clubs? 67 Hail Hail have provided you with individual reports below.

Luis Palma (Olympiacos)

Luis Palma’s Celtic career started well at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, but it sadly all went downhill from thereon in.

Rodgers has never fancied the Honduran winger and up until being loaned out to Olympiacos, Palma started just two Celtic games this season.

The Greek giants won their top-flight crown at a canter with Palma managing 12 appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old only scored one goal and provided one assist, so that won’t do much to convince Rodgers to keep him at Paradise.

Gustaf Lagerbielke (FC Twente)

Gustaf Lagerbielke was viewed as surplus to requirements at Celtic so was told to find another club to play for last summer.

The Swedish centre-back – who cost the Hoops £3m nearly two years ago – was immediately interested in the move to FC Twente and signed for the rest of the campaign.

Twente finished 6th in the Eredivisie after a 3-2 away defeat to AZ Alkmaar on the final day of the season at the weekend.

Lagerbielke has largely been a success for the club, playing 32 games and providing five goal contributions in all.

Kwon Hyeok-kyu (Hibs)

Kwon Hyeok-kyu signed from Busan IPark in the summer of 2023 but remarkably has yet to kick a competitive ball for Celtic.

It’s clear Rodgers sees no future for the South Korean defensive midfielder, who spent the latter half of 2023/24 campaign on loan at St Mirren.

It wasn’t the best of loan stints for Kwon at the Easter Road outfit. He played 22 games in total, scoring zero goals and laying on zero assists.

The 24-year-old had been suffering with an ankle injury at the end of the season and did not feature in any of Hibs’ last 12 Premiership matches as a result.

Marco Tilio (Melbourne City)

Since moving to Celtic from Melbourne City in 2023, Australian international winger Marco Tilio endured a disastrous time in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old struggled with injuries and played just two league games for the Hoops at the start of the 2023/24 term.

He was loaned back to Melbourne City on January transfer deadline day in 2024 and that deal was extended last summer.

Tilio has been fantastic for the City Blues, with 10 goal contributions across 18 games so far. His most recent assist came in the A-League Finals Series semi-final first leg against Western United.

Tilio’s Melbourne City progressed to the final and will play rivals Melbourne Victory on May 31 for the chance to win the 2025 A-League title.

Odin Thiago Holm (Los Angeles FC)

Odin Thiago Holm was loaned out at the start of the January 2025 transfer window due to a lack of game time with Celtic under Rodgers.

The summer 2023 recruit failed to start a game for the Hoops last season and was limited to just three substitute appearances in total.

The former Valerenga midfielder is currently seeing out the rest of 2025 with MLS side Los Angeles FC, making just five appearances so far. Holm’s time in LA has been plagued by calf and leg injuries.

Stephen Welsh (KV Mechelen)

Much like Holm, centre-back Stephen Welsh struggled to get enough minutes at the Hoops during the first half of last season.

He actually signed a new four-year contract with the club in August 2023, but has since only played 16 times for Celtic.

Welsh was sent out on loan to Belgian top-flight club KV Mechelen until the end of the season and played 17 games in total, scoring one goal.

KV Mechelen finished their league term with a 2-2 draw against Dender on Sunday but failed to give themselves a chance of qualifying for European football.

As pictured above, Tobi Oluwayemi played for Cork City on loan during the 2023 season before moving to Austrian side Admira Wacker last campaign.

The goalkeeper has been with Celtic since signing from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 and rubbed shoulders with Kasper Schmeichel in pre-season last summer.

Oluwayemi played the entire 2024/25 campaign as Scottish Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic’s No.1 goalkeeper.

He kept a fairly creditable 12 clean sheets in 34 appearances for the Pars as they finished the season in 7th under the tutelage of Celtic legend Neil Lennon.

Matthew Anderson (Admira Wacker)

Young Celtic left-back Matthew Anderson enjoyed a second stint out on loan at Austrian second tier outfit and Hoops feeder club Admira Wacker last season.

Anderson starred for Celtic against Manchester City in pre-season before going on to make 22 appearances for Admira Wacker, many of which were as a left midfielder.

The Scotland U21 international scored one goal and notched two assists.

Attacking midfielder Ben Summers – who has two senior Celtic appearances under his belt – played alongside Anderson as a loanee at Admira Wacker last season.

In total, Summers delivered four goal contributions across 19 league games as Admira Wacker finished six points behind champions SV Ried.

Lenny Agbaire (Ayr United)

On January 9, young defender Lenny Agbaire made a loan switch to Ayr United with the aim of helping the club gain promotion to the Premiership out of the Championship.

The 19-year-old made strides under the watchful eye of Celtic legend and Ayr manager Scott Brown until the end of the campaign, but the Honest Men were defeated in the play-offs by Partick Thistle.

Agbaire made 16 appearances for Ayr and scored one goal.
