How Kasper Schmeichel reacted to Celtic boos after Motherwell defeat

Celtic’s players are rightly feeling the wrath of the fanbase after a dreadful run of form.

Wilfried Nancy has received the majority of the blame, but now fans are turning on the players following five defeats in seven games.

The Hoops’ 2-0 loss was the final straw for some as Celtic squandered another chance to go level on points with Hearts.

Kasper Schmeichel is one of those who was called out for his display after returning to the starting XI after his absence against Livingston.

Confidence is on the floor, and it is even getting to senior professionals like the 39-year-old.

Should Celtic prioritise replacing Kasper Schmeichel in the transfer window?

Kasper Schmeichel decides against approaching fans

Tensions were already high at Fir Park going into the game but the full-time whistle was met with a chorus of boos from the travelling away end.

Most Celtic players seemed hesitant to go over to the fans at full time, apart from Schmeichel.

However, the Denmark international soon changed his mind as the boos got louder and he immediately turned around after a quick clapping gesture towards supporters, as seen in a video posted to X.

He joined the rest of the side in heading for the exits as the anger from the stands continued to be well documented.

Kasper Schmeichel has no competition for his place

Sections of the Celtic fanbase want Schmeichel dropped but, in all honesty, can the club really do that?

Viljami Sinisalo didn’t set the world alight in his appearance while Ross Doohan is only here to fill a registration quota.

Should Viljami Sinisalo be the long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel?

That lack of competition means that he is almost undroppable and that leaves the club in a dangerous position.

As the mistakes continue and more points are dropped, serious questions need to be asked.
