The vacant Celtic manager’s job looks set to take a twist if Man United hero Michael Carrick applies for it.

With so many names being mentioned, it’s hard to tell who really is in line to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

We told earlier how Lee Carsley’s ‘people’ ended a Celtic rumour that the former England U21 boss had put in an application for the Parkhead top job.

And now, it seems that former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick appears to be interested in being the Celtic manager, but there is a caveat.

Michael Carrick’s name ‘thrown in’ for Celtic job but Man United legend is unsure about one thing

Michael Carrick was a legend at Man United during his playing days as he conquered English domestic football and Europe.

And now, just months after being sacked by Middlesbrough, 67 Hail Hail understands that Carrick wants to ‘dip his toe’ into management again.

Graeme Bailey tells us that whilst Carrick’s name has also been mentioned for the vacant Wolves job the former England midfielder believes he may not be ready to take on a job the size of the Scottish champions.

That alone, in our view, disqualifies Carrick from any hope of being considered for the Celtic job, never mind being put on a shortlist of candidates.

Michael Carrick’s managerial record amid Celtic rumour

Carrick is a relative novice to the managerial game, having just managed Middlesbrough and taking temporary charge of the Man United squad.

And while the former Man United man decides whether or not to apply for the biggest job in the UK, we decided to take a look at his Middlesbrough managerial record over his two-year spell at the club.

At just 44, Carrick is far too inexperienced to be in charge of a club like Celtic and with him being so unsure of himself, how would he cope with the glare of not just Celtic and Rangers fans, but the spotlight of the Glasgow media?

It’s a hard pass from us.
