Celtic covered their entire January spending with the sale of Josip Juranovic, according to reported figures.

January was another busy month at Celtic Park with manager Ange Postecoglou continuing to strengthen his squad ahead of a push for three trophies in the second half of the season.

Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi, Tomoki Iwata and Hyeongyu Oh all arrived in Glasgow, and made their debuts before the end of the month.

Yet, January was dominated by chatter about key personnel from the 2021/22 title winning team moving on.

Josip Juranovic had been the subject of speculation for months by the time he joined Union Berlin, in a deal worth an initial £7.5m, plus add-ons. (Sky Sports)

Even without the add-ons, the fee recouped for Croatia ace Juranovic was enough to fund the aforementioned players.

Johnston was reported to have cost the club up to £3m (Daily Record), with Kobayashi arriving as a free transfer. (Daily Record)

Iwata joined on a loan deal initially, with Japanese outlet Sponichi reporting that the deal cost $1m (around £800,000).

Oh was said to have cost £2.5m by multiple outlets including Sky Sports.

So that’s roughly £6.3m spent by Celtic in January, with £7.5m coming in for Juranovic alone.

Giorgos Giakoumakis is likely to depart in the coming days, with the Scottish Sun reporting his fee to be £4.3m.

This impressive transfer picture is something Postecoglou is all too aware of as well.

“It’s important to this football club that we run a sustainable model,” he explained yesterday, as reported by the Scotsman.

“It’s not about just spending money, it’s about spending money we have brought in and being strategic about it.

“If we were bringing in players who weren’t increasing in value then we wouldn’t be able to reinvest that into players to replace them.

“All those things have a knock on effect and when you look at our current squad we have a great deal of value in that squad.

“If we do have to replace someone we will have the funds to replace them with a good player and I think that’s important.”
