Ange Postecoglou turned into a phenomenon at Celtic after arriving as a relatively unknown quantity back in 2021.
At that time, Celtic were in complete disarray after Neil Lennon was dismissed for a trophyless season, Peter Lawwell left his position as Celtic CEO and Scott Brown decided to not just step down as captain, but leave the club altogether.
Celtic embarked on a summer-long chase for Eddie Howe and when he turned down the opportunity to take the Parkhead hot seat, Postecoglou was immediately hired by the Glasgow giants.
And what a decision that turned out to be, regardless of how lucky it was.
Ange won five trophies out of six with a style of football that had Celtic fans off their seats and it led to Tottenham Hotspur come calling in the summer of 2023.
Spurs paid a handsome fee to Celtic for Ange Postecoglou
Finance experts, Swiss Ramble, decided to take a deep dive into Celtic’s financial results for season 2023/24 and shared just how much Postecoglou dented Spurs’ bank account in their pursuit of the Australian.
The Premier League club dug deep and paid Celtic £3.5m for Ange which is an incredible sum considering the former Hoops boss was on a year-to-year rolling contract at Parkhead.
It’s a deal that has worked out for the club after Celtic appointed Brendan Rodgers soon after Postecoglou’s departure and the Northern Irishman is continuing the Parkhead club’s domination of Rangers and Scottish football.
What Ange Postecoglou really achieved at Celtic before leaving for Spurs
As every Celtic fan knows, Postecoglou absolutely dominated Rangers and Scottish football during his two seasons at the club.
The five trophies Ange hoovered up at Celtic included a record-breaking eighth domestic treble but what the Australian did was probably more important than all that.

The relationship between the club’s hierarchy and the Celtic support was absolutely fractured and it seemed at that time it could not be healed.
However, the charismatic Ange brought in a style of football that brought the fans together and very quickly helped pull everyone connected to the club together.
Under pressure at Spurs at the moment, Postecoglou will bring silverware to the success-starved club but it will all depend on whether or not the Premier League club can hold their nerve and stick by the Australian as results start to pick up.
