Read MoreHow to watch Hibs v Celtic in the SWPL on Wednesday night
After the fantastic win for Fran Alonso’s Celtic team at the weekend, consistency is all we ask.
Celtic FC Women overcame Rangers on Sunday, leapfrogging our rivals into 2nd place and contention for a Champions League spot. It’d be the first time a Celtic Women’s team got into Europe’s premier club competition. Of course, beating our fiercest rivals to do it makes it all the sweeter.
However, it means nought if Celtic cannot get through their next few rounds of fixtures. Hibs await tomorrow night, before Alonso’s side take on Forfar Farmington and Motherwell [Celtic FC Women]. In their last meetings, Celtic beat Hibs 3-1, Forfar 8-0 and Motherwell 3-0. However, complacency is the last thing this Celtic side needs, and it’d certainly be out of character for Kelly Clark and her colleagues.
You might think, then, that BBC Alba or the Sport website have this game covered? Not so much. After so little coverage of women’s football in Scotland, there’s progressive demand to watch the matches. Oddly, the only way to see our visit to Edinburgh will be on Hibs’ Facebook page.

Excitingly, some home fans will be allowed into Penicuik Park, just as they were at Rangers’ training facility for the visit of the Ghirls.

Celtic FC Women can’t let up now
While manager Fran Alonso seems a patient figure, he’s also a passionate one. The prospect of squaring off against some of the best players in the world will be tantalising. However, Alonso has suggested that this season was just about progression, rather than setting lofty heights.
Instead, though, he’s managed to mould and motivate this squad into being incredible competitors. There’s still a chance, albeit a small one, that Celtic could win the SWPL1. Glasgow City are just three points ahead with three fixtures left, and they have Hearts, Spartans and a potential title decider against Rangers coming up.
We’ll be following the Ghirls against Hibs tomorrow night, and you can expect a thorough match report following full-time.
