Celtic remain focused on Eddie Howe but the former Bournemouth boss is ‘stalling’ on accepting the job, according to the latest update from journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon was the reporter that first credited Celtic with an interest in Manchester City employee Fergal Harkin back in February. [Scottish Sun]

He’s also provided updates on Roy Keane’s ambitions and the backroom staff situation that could be causing a delay in Howe accepting the job.

On Twitter today, he explained his understanding of the situation to an enquiring fan, stating: “Howe is stalling. But at least there’s a legit reason. Even if you do wonder. Keane doesn’t think he gets it. No sign of Celtic going elsewhere yet. But it’s dragging. Need director of football sorted.”

Celtic face critical fan communication with or without Howe

As this saga drags on, it looks increasingly like Celtic may have to front up with supporters and sell season tickets without having a manager announced.

To date, there’s been no communication on the 2021/22 campaign.

Last year, Celtic started renewals on March 9th [CelticFC.com], which is a good six weeks difference even if the campaign is launched today.

There may have been a delay because of broadcast negotiations, but now that is cleared up, there’s still no sign the club are ready to sell next season’s vision.

A manager in place, or at least announced, would greatly help that. As would a new director of football.

The clock is ticking and, with or without Howe, Celtic need to let us know what’s going on.
