When is the first Glasgow derby of the new season?

That was the question asked by every Celtic and Rangers fan when the SPFL released the Scottish Premiership fixtures for the 2025/26 campaign.

The answer is Sunday, August 31 at Ibrox, one day before the transfer window closes for the summer. It’s only a few weeks away now as Brendan Rodgers gets set to face yet another Rangers boss.

Hugh Keevins clearly can’t wait for the game because he’s already devoted a newspaper column to both clubs, as he argues Rangers would beat Celtic if they were to play today.

He went on to list five reasons why, as 67 Hail Hail outlines below.

Keevins on why he thinks Rangers would beat Celtic today

Keevins wrote in the Daily Record: “If Celtic were playing Rangers today, who would your money be on?

“I know where some of my state pension would go at the bookies – the blue corner. At the moment, Rangers are everything Celtic are not.”

Russell Martin more ‘incentivised’ than Brendan Rodgers

“Russell Martin, after a 3-0 first-leg win over Plzen in the Champions League qualifiers, is incentivised.

“Brendan Rodgers is demotivated because his employers want him to just maintain success without the irritation of funding improvement.”

Rangers spending more money than Celtic

“Rangers are throwing money about they can’t afford. Celtic are being fiscally prudent while the fans fume.”

Rangers can afford to drop club captain

“Martin leaves out his club captain and best midfielder against Plzen.

“If Rodgers left out Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate the outcome would be a sore one.”

Rangers have better wingers than Celtic

“Rangers have signed wide-men Olivar Antman and Djeidi Gassama who terrify the opposition while creating and scoring, thrilling goals.

“Celtic have one wide-man left Daizen Maeda – and fans want him used as a striker because there’s no-one there who could kick their own backside.”

Rodgers demands ‘got a rubber ear’

“And, finally, Martin upbraided his players for a sub-standard draw at Motherwell and got the desired response in the very next game.

“Rodgers systematically went through his club’s hierarchy for failing to replace lost players with better and got a rubber ear, so far at any rate, from the boardroom.

“So who would you back to win if the Old Firm faced up today? The truth, as ever, is an optional extra.”

But Celtic fans rightly clap back at Keevins

Celtic supporters were, however, jogging on the spot to put Keevins in his place on social media platform X.

@real55champions said: “Rangers are 2 points behind Celtic in the league and their own support boooed them off the park at Motherwell.”

@Aidyglack_SF asked: “Were they not booed off the pitch last Saturday v Motherwell????”

@Garymcbride1982 replied: “Cheers Hugh, I will get my money on celtic.”

Even Rangers fan @Colinlawson86 admitted: “I’m a Rangers fan and I even find this headline laughable”.
