Perhaps it’s just a coincidence from Celtic’s perspective.
But Robbie Keane leaving his post at Ferencváros, just as he has been linked with the managerial post at Celtic, is rather interesting.
It needs to be noted that Ferencváros didn’t win the Hungarian title this season, ending their seven-year dominance after final-day heartache.
Of course, that wouldn’t have gone in Keane’s favour in Hungary, but he still secured a domestic trophy this term, and it seems as though he left on his terms, rather than being booted out.
But according to the Hungarian press, it seems as though Keane no longer wanted to ‘participate’ in Ferencváros’s project, hence his abrupt exit.
Have Celtic missed out by not hiring Jens Berthel Askou?

Hungarian press reacts to Robbie Keane leaving Ferencváros amid Celtic links
Make no bones about it, even the Hungarian press is seemingly surprised by Keane’s call to leave, with Index describing it as an ‘unexpected decision.’
But like many, they are also wondering what the reason behind it is. Those in Glasgow will put two and two together and think Keane is Celtic-bound.
However, it’s not just the Hoops who the former striker could coach next, because Slovan Bratislava have also popped up on the radar.
Index in Hungary claims that the ‘most concrete offer’ comes from the Slovakian giants, and it’s the ‘most likely scenario’ for the Irishman.
But Keane’s call to leave could be down to what is happening behind the scenes at Ferencváros, who are facing ‘serious economic and structural changes’, according to Index.
It adds that they could ‘cut costs on several fronts’, and how that ‘uncertain financing environment’ is probably why Keane has opted to end his stay at Ferencváros.
