The Premiership title race delivered once again, as Celtic and Rangers experienced differing nights on Wednesday.

Kris Boyd was at Fir Park to watch Rangers get done by 10-man Motherwell, whilst Celtic produced their own late show against Livingston.

As Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh was scoring to help Motherwell draw against Rangers, over in Glasgow, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted a late winner on debut.

It was a beautiful sight for all associated with Celtic, as Boyd wasn’t his usual chirpy self in the Sky Sports studios.

Kris Boyd ‘excited’ by Premiership title race as Celtic and Rangers experience differing nights

With Celtic, Hearts and Rangers all battling it out for Scotland’s main crown, Boyd has already put his colours to his mast and previously stated that the Gers will win the title.

But on Wednesday night, an upset Boyd didn’t seem so confident, and he now thinks his former side are ‘under massive pressure’ ahead of a huge double header on Sunday.

Celtic will travel to Kilmarnock for the early kick-off, and then hours later, it’s Rangers and Hearts slogging it out at Ibrox.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (11/02/26), Boyd admitted that there are ‘exciting times’ ahead, but it’s a ‘must-win’ for Danny Rohl’s side against Hearts.

The former Scotland striker also thinks Martin O’Neill’s side will take on a much-improved Killie side with ‘confidence’, but still feels it will be difficult.

“Rangers will need to recover (ahead of Sunday against Hearts),” said Boyd. “There are players on the bench who will start at the weekend, and rightly so.

“I don’t think Danny Rohl got the impact that he expected from his subs. But it will be rest up, recover and look forward to what is a huge game.

“And if you look at the way Kilmarnock have been in the last few weeks as well, we are in for a good double header. I am looking forward to it.

“People keep asking questions about Hearts. But now, all of a sudden, Rangers are under massive pressure. They haven’t won here against Motherwell. They are back at home. It’s a must-win game for Rangers.

“Celtic have managed to dig out another result against Livingston. You are expecting them to be confident going to Rugby Park. It’s not going to be easy. But it’s exciting times.

“Again, we keep focusing on Celtic and Rangers. You have to look at Hearts. They are still five points clear at the top of the table. Interesting times.”
