Hyunjun Yang’s double in Celtic’s win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership not only helped close the gap to Hearts at the top of the league, they also created SPFL history.

Celtic beat Motherwell but had to come back from 1-0 down to do it, and Yang’s double was instrumental in the crucial win in the race for the SPFL title.

But not only did Yang secure Celtic’s bid to close the gap to Hearts, the South Korean winger stole a record from former Hoops striker Hyeongyu Oh, that not many fans may have known about.

How good has Yang been this past month?

Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang is the SPFL’s top South Korean goalscorer

Yang scored his 12th goal for Celtic in the Motherwell win, and that takes him above Oh as the SPFL’s all-time South Korean top goalscorer.

Oh had scored 11 goals before he made his Celtic exit to Genk, and Yang has now placed his name in the Scottish football history books.

Some perspective is also required here as it has taken Yang three full seasons to reach that target, but credit where it is due as the winger kept Celtic’s title defence on track.

Hyunjun Yang’s complete Celtic goal and assists record

Yang’s time at Celtic could be regarded as a bit of a rollercoaster. In and out of the starting XI, the South Korean international is now just becoming a mainstay in the Hoops squad.

It appears that Martin O’Neill has worked his Celtic magic on Yang as he arguably enjoys his best-ever season in Paradise, but do his total goalscoring and assists stats back that up?

While it is commendable Yang is creating history, his goalscoring and assist record still falls way short of that expected from a Celtic winger.
