‘I do think’… Pundit makes Celtic title chances claim following unexpected scenario

Celtic have the advantage for now in the Scottish Premiership following their 3-1 victory over St Johnstone last Saturday at Parkhead.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest capped a dominant showing on home soil, putting the game beyond doubt before Connor Smith replied with a late consolation for the visitors.

In his post-match press conference, Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his side’s overall performance on the day and signalled that they could’ve reaped more rewards in front of the target.

He stated: “I’m very pleased, it was a very good performance. The whole stadium, it felt really good today and really connected. From the first whistle, the supporters got behind the team and got their rewards. We scored three goals and could have had more.”

The following day, an unexpected scenario unfolded, as Dundee vs Rangers was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, leaving the Bhoys at the top of the table and heaping the pressure on our rivals to react.

Psychological margins of even the most minimal nature can be important during the course of a title race, and Celtic will hope to take advantage by continuing our recent upturn in performances.

Of course, there is the small matter of a Glasgow Derby at Ibrox next month, which is beginning to creep into the consciousness of both sides’ supporters as the international break starts to take shape.

Securing a win in Govan would go a long way to furthering our hopes of lifting a third successive league title once all is said and done.

Andy Halliday thinks Celtic gained small ‘advantage’ last weekend

You can only deal with the circumstances you are faced with, and Celtic won’t be too fussed over the weekend’s events elsewhere that have hit Scottish footballing headlines.

Despite this, Motherwell midfielder Andy Halliday has suggested that the Bhoys have been handed a small ‘advantage’ because their adversaries were denied the chance to move back to the summit.

Halliday initially stated live on the airwaves [Clyde 1 Superscoreboard]: “I’d rather the game was played yesterday (Sunday).”

He later added: “Like you said, with a couple of weeks down the line, you’d like to think they could get two or three bodies back, but if it falls three or four days before an Old Firm game, I do think it’s a slight advantage to Celtic.”

Brendan Rodgers will only be focused on internal Celtic matters

Sunday’s call-off is something that has crept into Celtic-related conversation over the last couple of days; however, Rodgers and company will be trying to focus on matters in-house.

Last weekend, we turned in one of our more complete performances this season, which can hopefully bode well to generate momentum once the international break comes to an end.

Livingston lay in wait next at the Tony Macaroni Arena, and making sure three points make their way back to Glasgow has to be the only priority we are honing in on.
