Celtic hero Chris Sutton slams Dundee vs Rangers “embarrassment”

The title race took a surprising turn today for Celtic as Rangers’ latest Scottish Premiership fixture against Dundee was postponed today.

Brendan Rodgers took his team to the top of the table in an impressive 3-1 win over St Johnstone yesterday afternoon and that piled the pressure on the Ibrox club to go out and secure a result at Dens Park and left Saints boss, Craig Levein, dejected.

But after the announcement was made to call off the game, Rangers will now need to wait until after the international break to try and reclaim the top spot from a Celtic team that just seems to be getting better and better.

And as the decision to postpone The Dens Park fixture gives Celtic a small advantage, Chris Sutton believes that this is an ‘absolute shambles’.

The former Celtic hero posted on social media channel X, “A total embarrassment for the Scottish top flight having the Dundee Rangers game called off an hour and a half before kick-off.

“Absolute shambles how it’s come to this. Don Robertson, the ref rocks, up at 1020 for a pitch inspection… surely a decision earlier would be wiser…”

Rodgers will be a happy Celtic manager

The Celtic manager will be delighted at this news. Although someone might want to text him because as he said yesterday, he has no interest in what’s happening with Rangers today.

Like Rodgers, I am of course joking. The Hoops gaffer will be absolutely delighted that his team sit on top of the league for the international break.

As I said earlier, the psychological boost this will give his squad will be huge as Rangers now turn into the chasing team.

But back to Sutton’s point, this is Dundee’s fourth postponement for a waterlogged pitch since the turn of the year. Their fifth of the season in total.

The Dens Park side had their St Mirren game on the 29th of January called off and its subsequent rescheduled date in February due to a waterlogged pitch. They also had their New Year game with St Johnstone rescheduled for the same reason. [BBC]

Aberdeen also faced the same fate back in October after the Tayside club’s pitch couldn’t withstand a Red Weather warning.

Due to be televised live on Sky Sports, Sutton is correct, this is not a good look for Scottish football but more so for Dundee who now are now under pressure to ensure the re-arranged fixture with the Ibrox club goes ahead before the split next month.
