Barry Ferguson wasn’t too keen to hear that Celtic are being pushed to break their club-record transfer in January in order to boost Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
Pundit and journalist Mark Guidi stated that Celtic can go to the next level by splashing the cash in a record-breaking fashion, as he added that ‘the money is there’ to do so, as he told Go Radio.
Given that the Bhoys are already dominating Scottish football, then that was the last thing Barry Ferguson wanted to hear with his Rangers hat on.
The former midfielder admitted that it does ‘worry’ him and ‘I hope the Celtic board aren’t listening’.
It could be argued that the recent summer transfer window was a little underwhelming because fans expected the club to push the boat out for the returning Brendan Rodgers.
There was nothing wrong with the faces that were brought in, Luis Palma, for instance, has made a positive start, but that big-money signing, or two, coming in could be the difference in the team securing those extra and much-needed points in Europe.
Barry Ferguson’s Celtic ‘worry’
“If Celtic felt, to break their transfer record fee and it would be a good investment, then do it,” said Mark Guidi.
“The money is there. Go and get some better players. Go and get some players that are ready to go and make an impact – I think if they did that then they would have more points in Europe.”
Barry Ferguson responded: “I hope the Celtic board aren’t listening because that worries me.”

Will Celtic push the boat out?
Given that it’s mid-season, then don’t expect serious movement in January, although, Chris Sutton has highlighted that depth is needed.
Added to that, strikers, left, right and centre have been tipped to make the switch to Parkhead, including Hearts’ sought-after forward Lawrence Shankland and Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski.
If any of those were to come in, they wouldn’t be considered big-name players or money signings, it’s just a case of the depth being added to.
Perhaps backing Rodgers by bringing in a few players from the Premier League would be a real statement of intent from the Celtic board.
