Celtic have enjoyed a fantastic season so far in Brendan Rodgers’ second spell at the club.
With a double bagged in his first season, the Celtic manager is looking forward to recording a possible third Parkhead treble.
Rodgers, on the way, has also helped to develop a number of players in his quest for dominance with Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor and Nicolas Kuhn being three in whom the Celtic boss has seen huge improvements.
However, Peter Grant has been left stunned with one Celtic hero as the former Hoops midfielder says he has defied his critics this season.

Peter Grant hails ‘phenomenal’ Celtic hero Daizen Maeda
Daizen Maeda is already an iconic figure at Celtic and before his goalscoring feats this season it was his incredible pace and energy levels that blew fans away.
Now a goal machine, Grant has said that the Japan international has defied all his critics with his stunning form this season.
Grant told Celtic TV, “I must admit, he’s done things this season I’ve never seen him do. His finishing has been phenomenal. Some of his goals have been outstanding, the way he’s finished them.
“We always thought he was erratic, that was the way you probably described him. You didn’t know what you were going to get from him.
“But as I say, some of his finishes have been excellent. His power and his pace. We’ve always spoken about that. But in a way, he’s clinical.
“He’s seen headed goals. You’ve seen balls get slid in when he’s been through one on one with the goalkeeper, all different things.”
Daizen Maeda’s Celtic stats since big December 2021 move
Maeda joined Celtic in December 2021 and enjoyed a goalscoring debut goal in the win against Hibs at Celtic Park.
So let’s take a look at how he has improved at Celtic with a season-by-season look at his goals and assists.
| Daizen Maeda | Played | Goals | Assists | Average rating |
| Season 2021/22 | 22 | 8 | 5 | N/A |
| Season 2022/23 | 49 | 11 | 7 | 7.01 |
| Season 2023/24 | 36 | 10 | 4 | 7.13 |
| Season 2025/25 | 49 | 33 | 12 | 7.50 |
So it is clear and obvious that Brendan Rodgers has taken Maeda’s game to the next level and Celtic fans will be hoping that continues into next season.
