Ibrox figure fails to learn from last season as he suggests Celtic dominance is about to end

Rangers attacker Todd Cantwell doesn’t seem to have learned his lesson from last season despite Celtic winning a treble.

The former Norwich City player arrived in January to witness the Hoops completing the clean-sweep last year, with his side beaten in each competition.

Cantwell did nothing of note in any game, bar the last one that didn’t matter a jot, yet he seems to be full of bravado online.

That has been the way of it for the Englishman so far. When he’s not been involved in a spat with Chris Sutton, he’s been posting about how Rangers were losing derbies rather than Celtic winning them. It seems like we’re heading for more of the same this season.

Ahead of the new campaign, Cantwell’s latest ‘playing to the gallery’ act has involved suggesting that this period of Celtic dominance is about to come to an end.

The Ibrox figure posted an image on his Instagram stories late on Monday with the caption “Let’s fight for everything.” Included, in tiny writing, on his shorts was an additional added detail: 56.

56 is the number of league titles those of a blue persuasion believe they’re going for this season.

While we won’t waste our time with that on a Tuesday morning, Cantwell’s addition certainly seems more than a little disrespectful to a club who have won 11 of the last 12 league titles on offer.

As always with these things, you must ask yourself if you’d see any current Celtic star doing likewise on their social media platform.

Has Liel Abada posted about us going for a second treble in succession? Has Matt O’Riley mentioned three-in-a-row anywhere? You already know the answers to those questions.

When Celtic fell behind Rangers a couple of years ago, the likes of Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic were determined to put the hard work in to get back on top. They managed it without daft social media posts playing to the galleries.

It will be interesting to see how Cantwell is viewed at Ibrox if another season of failure plays out.
