Celtic know how good Ismaila Soro is.

Or at least, that’s the indication we’re getting this morning. On his 23rd birthday, the club shared his impressive stats, via Stat Zone.

The statistics of a starting Celtic midfielder, you’d assume? Not really; Soro hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since January [Transfermarkt]. With Scott Brown leaving in the summer, sentimentality has reigned, despite the Ivorian’s scoring form in late 2020/early 2021.

Soro’s stats are frustrating in a way. His 105 recoveries in 18 matches are considerably impressive. His bite and energy in midfield has been exactly what Celtic have lacked this season, with Brown looking way off the pace, and McGregor having to do twice the work.

It seems little coincidence that the season’s best form coincided with having Soro in the team. Despite that, he’s only enjoyed cameo roles in matches, the most recent being against Rangers. The Bhoys might even lose him in the summer, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested.

It’s been frustrating to watch Celtic for so many reasons this season. But the reluctance to play a clearly talented midfielder has been one of the chief reasons.

Celtic fans had their say on Soro:
