Barry Ferguson has been left feeling ‘numb’ by Wednesday night’s match between Celtic and Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
The Alloa manager, whose team’s roughshod tactics in the Scottish Cup nearly ensured captain Callum McGregor missed the derby encounter, is a Rangers die-hard first and foremost.
However, he didn’t like what he witnessed this week.
Writing in The Daily Record today, he said: “In ordinary Old Firm circumstances I’d be halfway through a full-blown rant already.
“The flip-flops would have been flung at the telly in disgust before half time on Wednesday night and my blood would still be boiling right now, here in the cold light of day, as I try to get my head around just why Rangers performed so poorly at Parkhead.
“But I don’t even have the energy to get angry. And that’s probably the worst thing I can say to sum up how badly Rangers let themselves and their supporters down the other night. I’m still so deflated with what I watched in that first half that it’s hard to feel anything other than completely numb.”
This is probably how most Rangers supporters feel this week, even if they’re putting on a brave front. Sure, you have Kris Boyd making digs at Callum McGregor and such, but that’s all noise.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have spooked them. The intensity of the Celtic display in the first half on Wednesday night took them by surprise. We weren’t surprised.
There’s no league title to celebrate yet. There are still 14 games left of course. Celtic need to continue this gradual improvement and peak at the end of the season.
However, honestly, it is fantastic to see them so distraught this week as Rangers pick up the pieces and worry about what’s next.
