Gordon Dalziel reckons Celtic fans view the team’s striking pecking order differently now.

The Hoops have played four pre-season friendly matches so far against varying levels of opposition, as they prepare for the competitive 2025/26 campaign.

They have won three of those games, with the most recent victory coming against Sporting CP at the Estadio Algarve on Wednesday.

Celtic were impressive and it was striker Johnny Kenny who was instrumental in both goals. He won the penalty that was converted by Reo Hatate and assisted Luke McCowan’s excellent finish.

Gordon Dalziel on Kenny and Idah at Celtic

Kenny played the second-half of the game, while Adam Idah started the first 45 minutes. But the latter failed to make any sort of real impact.

And Dalziel thinks, as a result of Kenny’s display, the young Irishman is now ahead of Idah in the pecking order at Celtic in the eyes of the fans.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the pundit said: “I tell you what, Celtic fans who are taking a close look of pre-season just now, their summer signings, the way it’s all panning out…

“I think a lot of them will think that Johnny Kenny just now would be in front of Adam Idah, which is incredible.

“You’re looking at a £9m striker, and you look at a young lad who has just come back from a loan. He’s had a good pre-season.

“And I keep saying it, with a pre-season, you just put yourself in the position to put the manager under a little bit of pressure.

“But surely Celtic, with the finances and everything they’ve got, will add to that firepower before the start of the season.”

Brendan Rodgers delivered warning to Idah

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers spoke to the press after the win over Sporting CP and had a stern message for Idah after a poor showing.

The Northern Irishman insisted: “He needs to come alive. You can’t be caught thinking at this level. You have to anticipate and move and then have authority in the box.

“I know he can score goals and it’s also the time of pre-season.”

Idah has one goal so far this pre-season, which came in the defeat to Estrela da Amadora last Saturday. He was assisted by new signing Benjamin Nygren.
