Celtic loanee Scott Robertson could be out for the rest of the season as he continues to struggle with an injury.
Robertson, currently out on loan with Crewe Alexandra, has had an unfortunately torrid 2022 so far. He’s only managed to make 10 of the last 11 matchday squads, and hasn’t been in any of the previous 8 [Transfermarkt].
Lewis Laird has reported on Twitter that Robertson has had to undergo surgery. If so, the injury will unfortunately have ended his season with the League One club.

It had all started off so well for him in the first half of the campaign. The midfielder racked up 11 consecutive starts for Crewe and was impressing supporters of the English club also.
However, since the new year it’s been a struggle for him to find those consistency levels. Robertson was in and out of matchday squads due to knocks. Crewe boss David Artell has yet to come out and explain the nature of whatever’s been keeping him out.
For now, however, it looks as though Robertson will likely be out for the rest of the campaign as we await official confirmation.
Wishing Scott Robertson a speedy recovery ahead of next season
As productive as large spells of his Crewe campaign has been, it hasn’t been the breakthrough he would’ve hoped. Injuries have certainly played their part, and just when it looked as though he was ready to get another half-season of games under his belt.
Of course, there’s plenty of time for Robertson to develop into a Celtic first-teamer. Just because his time with Crewe looks to be at an end, it doesn’t mean it’s a major disaster for him.
All he needs to do now is simply get himself back to Lennoxtown and get back to full fitness ahed of pre-season. After all, it’s going to be another big year for him.

Whether Ange Postecoglou sees enough in Robertson to bring him into the senior squad yet remains to be seen. But most people will be guessing that yet another loan spell may be on the cards. Especially when you take into consideration how this year looks to have ended.
Of course, we’re wary that this has yet to be confirmed by either Crewe or Celtic. Who knows? Perhaps he’ll manage to return from whatever his injury problem was before the end of the season. But given the fact Crewe only have a handful of games remaining, that seems unlikely.
Whatever happens, hopefully Robertson recovers well before the summer and can make an impression in pre-season.
