"It's unbelievable"; New Celtic signing wins August goal of the month at old club
New Celtic signing Liam Scales left Shamrock Rovers last week but that hasn’t stopped the club handing him their August goal of the month award.
Scales was on target for Rovers in the fifth minute of stoppage time against Longford Town on August 8th.
It was an excellent effort, with the defender powering a towering header past the goalkeeper to win his club the three points.
The cry from the commentator is “It’s unbelievable!” as Scales celebrates with his teammates
You can see it on the official Shamrock Rovers Twitter account.
If nothing else, the goal shows of both Scales’ height, at 6ft 2in, and his athleticism. Those two things are apparent in any highlight of him in action.

That will serve him well adapting to life in Scottish football.
For me, the Scales sign has gone under the radar for many supporters. It’s quite clear he will immediately be a part of the first-team squad, rather than be seen as some kind of project/development signing.
He’s 23 and has a lot of experience in Irish football. Scales admits himself it’s a step up, but he’ll be making appearances for the Celtic first-team this season, no doubt.
Ange Postecoglou has already noted he provides fine depth at left-back and centre-half. So expect to a bit of Scales sooner than you think.
Scales could well be the summer signing that surprises everyone.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
