"I've had conversations with the board"; Callum McGregor tells 67 Hail Hail why he signed Celtic deal
Callum McGregor has signed a new five-year deal at Celtic and the captain was immediately tasked with speaking to supporters in a fan media conference over Zoom this afternoon.
We were, of course, in attendance and asked Callum about his decision to commit his peak years to Celtic despite many of his peers heading off to more illustrious leagues.
Just what is it about Celtic he loves that convinced him to commit to another five years at the club?
McGregor told us: “I’ve been here for 20 years now and it’s been a part of me growing up, to come through the academy and break through. Now I’m club captain, it’s something to be hugely proud of.
“I see the club moving in the right direction. I’ve had conversations with the board and several guys around it. We see the club progressing in a positive way.
“There’s the incentive to win the league and go straight back into the Champions League, that then obviously generates the revenue for the club to go an kick on again.
“I love the intensity of the club – having to win Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Every time you go on the pitch you need to win and I love that. I love winning trophies and I think this club can provide the best platform to do that.”
McGregor’s passion for the club absolutely shone through today and, in fairness, does every time he speaks.
He has tremendous ability and sees Celtic as a vehicle for him to return to elite European football while also winning trophies.
His commitment is very pleasing and befitting of a club captain.
Now, we just need to get him back to fitness from a hamstring injury and have him influencing performances on the pitch again!
