Kyogo Furuhashi is well known for being a goalscoring machine under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

The Japanese forward’s prowess in front of goal was on show once again on Monday afternoon, as he came up with the crucial goal to secure a point for the Hoops at Ibrox.

The 27-year-old’s first Glasgow Derby strike marked his 15th goal of the 2022/23 league campaign, leaving him joint top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership with Hearts frontman Lawerence Shankland.

That also brings his overall tally at Parkhead to 36 goals in 58 games since his arrival in Glasgow in the summer of 2021. Which is really good going, considering he missed half of last season through injury.

So, it is fair to say Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou trusts Kyogo to produce the goods for his side in the green and white Hoops.

However, it wasn’t too long ago that both Kyogo and Postecoglou were facing off against one another back in Japan.

The former Socceroos boss was well aware of the Japanese international, given his goalscoring exploits against his Yokohama F Marinos team, during the striker’s time at Vissel Kobe.

Earlier today, the official J-League Twitter account paid tribute to Celtic’s number eight by posting an old video of Kyogo getting one over his current manager, as he scored during a 3-2 victory back in 2020.

Celtic supporters are likely to enjoy the caption, which reads: “Back when @Kyogo_Furuhashi was scoring bangers against Ange … now he’s doing it for him!”

Kyogo’s exploits in Japan which led him to Paradise.

Kyogo’s goalscoring performances against Ange Postecoglou’s side back in 2020 clearly left an impression on the Celtic manager, who was quick to bring the Vissel Kobe man to Parkhead.

The forward was one of Postecoglou’s first major pieces of business at Parkhead and has proved to be a resounding success, quickly becoming a fans favourite.

Kyogo’s move to Glasgow may never have happened in the first place if it wasn’t for many different factors falling into place.

But, as mentioned, his performances back in his homeland clearly caught the attention of the Yokohama F Marinos manager, which ultimately led him to Paradise.

Nowadays, Kyogo and Ange Postecoglou find themselves going in the one direction and pushing for more trophy success at Parkhead.

However, it wasn’t always like that for the popular duo, who were once pitted against one another at the top of the J-League table.

Thankfully, from a Celtic supporter’s point of view, we are blessed to see both parties come together at Parkhead, and as the J-League states, we now see Kyogo scoring goals for Ange rather than against.
