With dreams of trebles on the horizon, this Celtic side have been absolutely phenomenal this season. Five dropped points with five games to go, Ange Postecoglou’s men are on course to become Celtic record-breakers as well as treble winners.
It has been an incredible team effort and, to a man, every Celtic player has played their part. But there is one player that has stood out for former Celtic defender, Jackie McNamara.
He believes that Cameron Carter-Vickers is his man for the end-of-season accolade.
Speaking to Sky Sports, McNamara said, “Carter-Vickers has been the player of the year. He’s been solid and he isn’t scared to go one-v-one or leave himself a bit exposed at the back.
“He’s strong and he reads the game well but he can play as well, he’s been a terrific signing.
“I thought Kyogo hit the ground running when he first came to the club, but he’s got better and better.
“He has a double movement which, as a defender, is difficult to mark even though he isn’t big or physical. He’s sharp, he has a good eye for goal and he gets into some terrific areas.”
Carter-Vickers was one of three of my picks to become our player of the year this season. To add to what McNamara has said, the US defender has never been bested by any striker this season.
His battling qualities are also one of his strengths. At Ibrox earlier this season, Carter-Vickers was a rock at the heart of the Celtic defence in the 2-2 draw. There was a moment in that game where he held off two Rangers and still came away with the ball.
If Carter-Vickers does win it, it will be well deserved. But in truth, any one of at least five players could walk away with the award and it wouldn’t cause much debate amongst the fans.
