James Forrest pulls curtain back on injury and what Celtic star thought in the moment

James Forrest is an unsung hero of sorts at Celtic.

The winger has been a one-club man in Glasgow for 16 years and it seems like it’s only now he is finally receiving his flowers and the adulation he has deserved for years.

At 33 the player’s career is winding down, but for Forrest he is not about to call it a day quite yet. Certainly not since making a Celtic comeback from a rough injury which has kept him out since December.

James Forrest knew Celtic injury was a ‘bad one’

Forrest has explained how his steely determination prevented him from letting his head go down as he knew he still had more trophies to add to his collection upon his return.

“I think I was maybe on a couple of minutes and I felt it right away,” he told Celtic TV.

“I was the last sub on and maybe with the adrenalin in the game you can get through it, but straight after the game I knew it was going to be a bad one.

“It’s just one of those types of injuries, you’re on crutches for six weeks and you need it to heal.

“Obviously you get setbacks throughout your career, but it makes it even better when you get back, and when you start playing you don’t take things for granted.

“When you get that type of injury, and obviously I’m a bit older as well, you’ve got to have the determination and work hard to get back.

“When you see what the boys are producing in the games they’ve played, first and foremost you look to get back training, feeling good and get back in the squad.

“I managed to get back on the park on Saturday as well, which was amazing.

“I just want to just keep looking forward to every day, keep working hard and hopefully play more games towards the end of the season.”

Forrest wants to add to Celtic trophy haul before he retires

Forrest would have been forgiven for at least considering hanging up his boots as rehabbing an injury later in a career is not easy.

But that’s not really his style.

No, the wide man was buzzing to be back on the pitch for the first-team in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Hearts last weekend and all it did was add to the enjoyment he has had from training on the grass again.

“It’s been really good,” Forrest added.

“That’s me been training for maybe two-and-a-half to three weeks now and I’ve been really enjoying it.

“I think any player knows when they’re out for a length of time, all they want to do is get back out there on the pitch with the boys, and I’ve been really enjoying it.”
