The next Glasgow Derby game at Celtic Park against Rangers will put the Hoops on course to claim an early title win.

The earliest Celtic can win the title is on April 6th against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Celtic’s ticket allocation for that game has been increased to three stands which will create a carnival atmosphere.

But before then, Celtic must beat Rangers in this weekend’s Glasgow derby, or Rodgers will need to wait a little bit longer for his fourth title as the Hoops boss.

Celtic have been absolutely dominant in this fixture and legendary winger James Forrest has been key to that success over the years.

So when Forrest points out his favourite-ever goal was against Celtic’s Glasgow rivals, the match it was in will raise a smile amongst every single Hoops supporter.

James Forrest’s favourite goal as Celtic humiliated Rangers in 2018

Speaking in the Celtic matchday program Issue #3 on the 1st September 2024 before the Hoops beat Rangers 3-0, Forrest recalled a goal against the Ibrox club that he calls his favourite-ever strike.

Forrest said. “I think the Rangers one (5-0 game 2017/18). It was my first goal against Rangers, we won the league, it was at home – I’d definitely go with that one.

“There have been others – cup final goals and another against Rangers, but that’s the one that sticks out.

“It just happened that quickly. I was just trying to be positive and then the space opened up and it just fell into place.

“I was obviously buzzing as you could see by the celebrations as well.”

The 5-0 hiding Celtic gave Rangers to win the Scottish Premiership

Many Celtic fans will remember this game well. Goals from Odsonne Edouard (2), Forrest, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor had Celtic 5-0 up by the 53rd minute.

But the pick of the lost was this little beauty from the legendary Celtic winger:

The maddening thing about this was that Celtic took their foot off the gas that day as soon as the fifth goal went in because, in truth, the scoreline could, and probably should have been a lot higher than it finished in that iconic day in Celtic Park.
