The Celtic board have been put under the spotlight as the post-split fixtures kick off.

For once, it’s not the Celtic fans doing the heavy lifting, but the players, starting with Callum McGregor, and now James Forrest.

Ahead of Celtic’s clash against Falkirk, a host of players, such as Forrest, Luke McCowan and Liam Scales, have signed new deals, as McGregor has challenged the club to show ambition regarding the skipper extending his stay in Glasgow.

That’s a message Forrest, who has been through it all with his long-time teammate, has backed and even stated that ‘everyone’ is on his side.

“I understand what Cal’s saying,” said Forrest. “He’s competitive, and he wants to win things – As I said, everyone backs what he is saying.”

James Forrest hails ‘competitive’ Callum McGregor after message to Celtic board

McGregor’s comments will please the Celtic Park faithful because it puts extra pressure on the powers that be ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening.

Even if Celtic win the title, and there is also every chance that Martin O’Neill can guide the team to the domestic double, what has unfolded during this campaign can’t be covered up.

Both McGregor and Forrest have seen it all and won it all as they have come through the ranks and become two of the most trophy-laden players to put on the famous green and white colours.

It’s clear that the duo are coming towards the end of their careers, and the last thing they want is to end their twilight years in decline.

Either way, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Celtic’s clash against Falkirk, Forrest has insisted that McGregor’s comments are coming from a ‘good place.’

Reporter: “Callum was talking about his own future. How he will stay as long as the club and the board match his ambition?

“Is that something you agree with? Do you think this summer has to be one that’s really ambitious, moving the club forward and potentially going into your last couple of years?”

Forrest: “Aye, I think my time here, the club has always pushed for that. They have always tried to get signings and to get players in.

“I understand what Cal’s saying, he’s competitive, he wants to win things. He’s desperate. He lives and breathes Celtic. He loves it, and he wants the best for Celtic as well. I think that’s what he is saying, coming from a good place.

“As I said, everyone backs what he is saying. I think everyone at the club, hopefully, from now until the end of the season, we stick together, and we can focus on next season.”
