Kasper Schmeichel is celebrating signing a one-year deal with Celtic and will soon join up with his new teammates in the USA.
Brendan Rodgers is putting his squad through their paces at a training camp across the Atlantic, with three high-profile friendly matches against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea coming over the next eight days.
Schmeichel is in line to make his Bhoys debut in one of those fixtures after the club announced his signing on Thursday night.
The goalkeeper is expected to be Rodgers’ number one heading into the competitive season despite the recent signing of Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa.
Friends and former teammates respond to Schmeichel to Celtic
The veteran shot-stopper has been receiving plenty of messages of support from the football community, with friends and former teammates leading the charge.
Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison said on Instagram in response to Schmeichel’s Celtic post last night: “Good luck my mate.”
Ben Foster added: “Brilliant mate!”
Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, who recently moved to Chelsea from Leicester, said: “All the best my man.”

There were also messages from former West Ham United and Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, as well as Jonny Evans and Nemanja Matic.
Schmeichel is a popular fellow and leaves good relationships everywhere he’s been. That leadership and charisma will help fill the void left by Joe Hart in the Celtic dressing room.
New Celtic goalkeeper still performing at a high level
There have been concerns from some that Schmeichel is actually older than Hart and that Celtic should not be moving for a 37-year-old.
However, it’s clear that the Dane still has the motivation and quality to perform at the highest level. Hart himself admitted he didn’t have it in him to compete for another season – Schmeichel does and that difference in mentality is key.
Schmeichel was of great value to Anderlecht last season with a league-leading save percentage and prevented goals.
Coming off a busy summer at Euro 2024, there’s no doubt Celtic’s new Bhoy still can make a big difference to the position on the quest for trophies this season.
