James McFadden tells Celtic why losing Kyogo Furuhashi is a ‘mistake’ after brutal Peter Grant cash theory

Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to leave Celtic for Rennes in the coming days.

The Japanese striker has been subject to plenty of speculation about his Celtic future after being involved in a bizarre transfer story with Atlanta United earlier this month.

Kyogo is now leaving Celtic for Rennes after both clubs agreed a £10m deal after the Bhoys beat Young Boys in the Champions League.

However, it’s a deal that has left James McFadden sending a warning to Celtic after he said that selling the Japanese talisman is a ‘mistake’.

And the warning has come after Peter Grant’s stinging theory about Kyogo’s reason for leaving Celtic is nothing to do with his international ambitions, it was simply for the cash.

James McFadden says Celtic selling Kyogo Furuhashi is not ‘a good idea’

McFadden told Open Goal, “It’s a good deal to get Jota back but I don’t think it’s a good deal to let Kyogo go.

“If somebody’s paying £10 million in January, why would they not pay that in the summer?

“It depends who comes in but you’re not getting the movement that he has. I know there will be people that say ‘he doesn’t get involved in the game’ but if you give him service, his movement is ridiculous. I don’t think it’s a good idea personally because who are you bringing in for £10 million?”

Gordon Dalziel gets ‘honest’ about Kyogo Furuhashi leaving Celtic for Rennes

McFadden’s fellow pundit, Gordon Dalziel, reckons the writing was on the wall after Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said he wouldn’t stand in Kyogo’s way if he wanted to leave the Hoops.

Dalziel said, “The only thing I would say is that Brendan Rodgers has come out on record and said, ‘If he wants to go he can go’.

“He’s their best centre forward, isn’t he? Let’s be honest about it. £10m to Celtic, it’s not as if they’re sitting there going they can’t take £10m.”

Whatever happens in the coming days, Celtic fans will wish Kyogo the best of luck for his new venture at Rennes.

The Japan international has been a great servant to Celtic and has given the supporters many, many great memories.

If Celtic can facilitate the return of Jota, that will help soothe the raw feelings of Kyogo leaving the club and that will be a deal many supporters will be hoping gets concluded sooner rather than later.
