Jens Berthel Askou’s candidacy for the Celtic job is back in the spotlight.
The Motherwell boss has been one of the most talked-about men in Scottish football this season, over-achieving with an impressive brand of football at Fir Park.
Just ten days ago, Askou’s side went to Ibrox and firmly outplayed Danny Rohl’s Rangers as they took a 2-0 lead in the first half, eventually running out 3-2 winners.
And with uncertainty remaining over the identity of the Hoops’ next manager, one journo is in no doubt over his interest in the role.
Would you take Jens Berthel Askou in the event that Martin O’Neill leaves Celtic in the summer?
Jens Berthel Askou ‘very interested’ in Celtic job
STV journalist Ronnie Charters, speaking on the STV Radio Football Show, said whilst discussing Askou: “I know for a fact he wants the Celtic job.
“Jens is very interested in the Celtic job.

“He would like to speak to Michael Nicholson.”
However disrespectful it may be to Motherwell, this is hardly a surprise. The Dane’s success right on the Hoops’ doorstep has firmly established him as one of the main contenders for the job.
Askou spent most of his playing career in Denmark but had two years in England with Norwich and Millwall. He is a friend of Russell Martin, with whom he played at Carrow Road.
As a manager, he began his career with Vendsyssel in Denmark before winning the Faroese league and cup double with Havnar Boltfelag.
Two more formative years at Horsens in Denmark earned him a move to Swedish side IFK Goteborg, but he left that role to become an assistant manager at Sparta Prague in 2024.
This move failed; Sparta dismissed him six months later. Regardless, he became an assistant at Copenhagen shortly later, winning the Danish Superliga.
He joined Motherwell after his short-term contract in the Danish capital expired, quickly turning heads with the extent of his football at Fir Park.
I want the next manager of Celtic to be…
Jens Berthel Askou widely being tipped for the Celtic job
The Fir Park boss hasn’t made any noise about his Motherwell future, but the media certainly has.
Charlie Mulgrew has given Askou a rousing endorsement, saying that his football would be ‘perfect’ for the Scottish champions.
Frank McAvennie has also urged Celtic to appoint Askou, saying that he would be the one to take the Hoops to the next level.
Asked about who will be leading Celtic this August, Tom English saw him as the favourite, describing the appointment as a ‘no-brainer’.
Even Chris Sutton is sold on Askou – and he is not an easy man to please.
