Hoops fans have been treated to two versions of Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic over the last few weeks.
On the one hand, there has been some very good attacking football being played at Celtic under the Frenchman and the supporters have seen some good goals being scored in that period.
On the other hand, Celtic’s defensive performance has been scarily poor as Nancy’s system is cut open by some of the poorest attacking teams in the league.

The defeat to Dundee United and Celtic’s win at Livingston is proof of that as the Bhoys looked fluent in attack but very fragile at the back.
But it seems that Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has warned his players about one thing that is crystal clear about Celtic under their new manager right now.

Askou tells Motherwell Celtic are more deadly now under Nancy
A lot of comments in the media are constantly telling Celtic fans how Wilfried Nancy will fail at the club if he continues to use his 3-4-3 system.
But that’s not what Askou believes as he sends a direct warning to his players ahead of facing Celtic at Fir Park tonight.
Askou told Motherwell FC, “I think it’s clear that when you when you come in as a new manager into a big club with big expectations, huge pressure where things are not flowing freely, you have some injury issues as well you need to sort out.
“There’s a lot of games, big games with not a lot of time on the training pitch. Then it takes a little bit of time before the things you want to do, especially if they’re a little bit different from what has been
done before, where before it settles and becomes really, really fluent.
“But I see already that they’re starting to look sharper, more confident and more natural. And as I said, they are converting some more of their chances to more goals and that is going to be and that has lifted their confidence.
“It makes them better and that is going to be the big test for us tomorrow to see if we can keep them
from scoring.”
Is Jens Berthel Askou right about Celtic under Nancy? Let us know in the comments.
Celtic’s attacking stats vs Livingston should be a fair warning to Motherwell
Celtic have looked more dangerous in attack over the last three or four games which fans are now starting to see turn into positive results.
Looking at the Livingston win, Celtic’s attacking stats via Fotmob, as Askou states, show a clear picture of what Nancy is building with this team.
- Shots: 18
- Shots on target: 7
- Big chances: 5
- Shots inside box: 13
- Shots outside box: 5
- Touches in Livingston box: 35
- xG: 3.93
- xG from open play: 1.99
It’s clear that Nancy’s Celtic have a clear attacking objective. If the Frenchman can keep the defensive door closed, then the Bhoys would be formidable in domestic competition.
