Jens Berthel Askou’s response to interest from Toulouse felt telling because he never seriously attempted to shut the conversation down.

Managers who want speculation killed usually do it quickly. The Motherwell boss did not.

Askou instead framed the growing attention around himself and his players as evidence that something important is happening at Fir Park.

Celtic supporters are no longer the only people noticing the work he has done this season.

Be honest… how much have you doubted Celtic this season? 👀

Askou’s Toulouse response was revealing for Celtic

Speaking before Motherwell’s match against Celtic, Askou chose his words carefully when asked about links to Toulouse.

“I would much rather speak about the game, so the answer will be very short, or as short as I can give it,” Askou said.

“There have been many things written about this wonderful football club and what we have achieved, and also speculation and links about me and especially a lot of the players, which I take as a positive sign that we are doing something right.

“That’s all I can comment on or want to comment about that.”

That is not a denial. It is a manager openly acknowledging that Motherwell’s work is attracting wider attention.

There is substance behind it too. Motherwell have produced a remarkable season under Askou. They have conceded just 33 league goals, recorded a famous 2-0 win over Celtic earlier this season and also secured a dramatic 3-2 victory at Ibrox.

Toulouse interest changes the conversation

The significance of Toulouse entering the picture is that it pushes Askou’s reputation beyond Scotland.

The Ligue 1 side are searching for a new manager and Askou has reportedly emerged as a candidate because of the measurable work he has produced at Motherwell.

This is not hype driven by one good month or emotional fan reaction. It is recognition built on organisation, results and consistency.

Motherwell insist there has been no formal approach, but Askou’s response still mattered. He sounded like a manager fully aware that his profile is changing.

That is why Celtic supporters are not imagining this rise. Clubs outside Scotland are clearly paying attention too.
