Former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong has opened up on what it felt like to make his debut for the club.

Signed as a raw 18-year-old from Manchester City, Frimpong played 51 times for Celtic scoring three goals and creating eight assists. He also won a Treble in the 2020 season under Neil Lennon.

Famed for his catchphrase ‘Oh my Days’, Frimpong had pace to burn and it wasn’t long before Bayer Leverkusen came sniffing and enticed him to the Bundesliga in a transfer that is believed to be in the region of £11.5m. [BBC]

But this afternoon, UEFA published an interview with the now 22-year-old and asked him what kind of emotions did he feel when he made his debut for Celtic.

Speaking on the official UEFA website in their First/Last Q&A, Frimpong said, “Mixed. Mixed emotions. Butterflies at the start, and at the end of the match just an amazing feeling.

“So, mixed emotions.”

Frimpong debuted against Partick Thistle in the 5-0 Scottish Cup win at Celtic Park back in September 2019.

He famously got sent off for Celtic in the League Cup final against Rangers in 2020 but Celtic still managed to lift the trophy after a beautiful Christopher Jullien second-half goal.

Now a regular for Leverkusen, rumours that a move to England have been circulating for a number of months now. With Manchester United said to be waiting in the wings, should young Frimpong decide to make the transfer, Celtic could be in line for a multi-million pound pay day.
