Joe Hart will always be a hero amongst the global Celtic fan base.
Hart joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 and was a huge part of the Ange Postecoglou revolution at Parkhead.
Out in the cold at Spurs and aged 34, Hart joined Celtic in August 2021 in what now looks like a last-ditch attempt to salvage what was left of his career.
And now, a year-and-a-half after leaving Celtic, Hart has opened up on what he almost did before he signed a two-year Parkhead deal.

Joe Hart almost never joined Celtic
Hart took over from the disastrous Vasilis Barkas reign between the Celtic sticks and fans will be thankful that he didn’t go through with his original plan
Hart told That Peter Crouch Podcast, “When I did get the opportunity, because I was ready at 34, Nuno would come in at Spurs and made it very clear that he didn’t even want me on his bench.
“I was like, I don’t really need football anymore. It’s not doing anything for me.
“If anything, it’s just making me frustrated and not a good person. But then I got the opportunity to go there, and I thought I’ve got to. There’s nothing else that I really want from football.
“I could have easily walked away, but I thought I’ve got to go and do that.”
“And I just thought, I don’t need this anymore. I’ve done everything I want to do. There’s nothing probably out there I can do that’s any better than what I know I can do.
“So, there’s no point in causing myself harm and just kind of hanging around like a bad smell. I felt like I was starting to do that. But then I got this amazing opportunity to go up there.”
Joe Hart was a Celtic and UK record-breaker
Hart won a tremendous number of trophies during his three-year stay at Celtic under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.
The England legend won:
- Three Scottish Premiership titles
- Two Scottish Cups
- Two League Cups
But what Hart also did was become only the second Celtic player of all time, behind Kenny Dalglish, to win every major domestic honour on both sides of the Scottish border.
