Joe Hart shares how he feels about playing for Celtic in the Glasgow Derby

The Glasgow Derby has it’s own unique atmosphere and when Celtic and Rangers meet on Saturday afternoon that will be on show for all to see.

Admittedly, it may have lost a bit of it’s shine since Rangers decided they had had enough of Celtic fans celebrating in the Broomloan Stand back in 2018 and cut the away allocations.

However, as we have seen at Parkhead when it is full of Celtic fans, the atmosphere generated is red-hot and makes the game a real spectacle.

But for Joe Hart, taking part in one of these unique games was new to him and here he shares how he feels about playing in the Glasgow Derby for Celtic.

Joe Hart has ‘loved’ the Glasgow Derby

The veteran goalkeeper has made 14 appearances against Rangers since he joined Celtic back in 2022. Out of those 14, he has won eight, drawn three and lost three. [Transfermarkt]

So he has felt probably every emotion available having tasted victory and defeat in these massive games. And now that he is retiring at the end of the season, Hart has opened up on what it’s like to play in the biggest game in the calendar.

Hart said [The Scottish Sun], “I didn’t have any expectations about them when I came.

“I’d spoken to two or three people about the games and the common message was that you don’t know what they are like until you’re there in one of them.

“But though I didn’t have any expectations, I can tell you that I’ve loved every moment of being a part of them.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the derbies I played in previously, but ultimately I’m a professional who wants to win. So I’m only going to enjoy Saturday if we put a performance in.”

Hart has been an excellent servant for Celtic not just in the derby, but also against other opposition in the Scottish Premiership.

His value was on show once again at the weekend after a ‘wonder-save’ against Hearts kept Celtic on course for a brilliant 3-0 win as he showed his value to the team which the Parkhead dressing room will miss.

And the Celtic fans, who have built a massive rapport with Hart, are certainly going to miss him when he hangs up his gloves this month.
