Joe Hart’s response to Celtic contract extension question after recent reports

Joe Hart was asked on Friday about the possibility of extending his contract at Celtic but the big goalkeeper wasn’t up for giving much away.

Hart, now 36, has a deal that runs until the end of the season and he will be free to speak to any club he likes in the new year.

There’s been lots of speculation about the future of the goalkeeping position at Celtic with some reports indicating that Brendan Rodgers is seeking out a long-term replacement for the English veteran.

However, other outlets have suggested that Hart’s representatives are already in discussions about extending his deal with the Scottish champions. [Football Insider]

Joe Hart gives nothing away on Celtic contract issue

Asked on Friday whether there is an update on talks with the club, the shot-stopper made it clear he is focusing on the here and now.

Hart said [Celtic FC]: “Nothing that I’m aware of. I’ve said it before, I’m staying out of that business. That’s for the people above my head to talk about.

“I’m just so focused on trying to do my best for this team, enjoy every moment, enjoy every minute and try to give myself to help as best I can.”

From my perspective, there will ideally be a transition away from Hart over the next year to 18 months. He’s been a fantastic signing for Celtic, steadying the goalkeeping ship after the calamity of Vasilis Barkas.

He’s popular in the dressing room and amongst supporters – for good reason. There’s no need to bin him outright.

However, it’s a wide world out there and hopefully the club are identifying an option that can be a mainstay in Rodgers’ side for years to come.
