Celtic’s hunt for Joe Hart’s immediate heir ended when Kasper Schmeichel signed for the club this week.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper ended five months of intense speculation where 20 names were linked to the club since Joe Hart announced his retirement in February.
With Viljami Sinisalo also brought in to learn under the veteran Dane, Brendan Rodgers has secured a short and long-term solution to what was beginning to turn into a crisis position for the club.
Former Celtic hero, Johan Mjallby, has shared what he thinks of the Celtic manager’s decision to bring the 105-cap Danish international to the club this summer.
Schmeichel will be ‘brilliant’ for Celtic
Taking over from Joe Hart would be a daunting task for any goalkeeper but Mjallby believes that Schmeichel is the perfect candidate to do so.
Mjallby said [The Sunday Post print edition page 72], “For now, it’s a real positive to get Kasper Schmeichel in the door. He will be a brilliant signing, most definitely.
“He has proper experience and has won big, big trophies at club level. He has also been superb for Denmark and was in good form at the Euros.
“His experience will be vital on and off the park. He still has great reflexes and defends his goal line very, very well. He is a stalwart.
“Brendan is delighted to get Kasper on board and no wonder. He will be a leader and help inspire Celtic to more and more success.”

Schmeichel has an obvious history with Brendan Rodgers after both of their times at Leicester City helped to deliver an FA Cup and a Community Shield.
The Denmark international also reached immortality status at The Foxes after being a major player in their Premier League-winning team in 2016.
The point is, that Schmeichel has a winner’s mentality and he will fit right in at Celtic. His experience and knowledge of the game will be crucial as will his European experience as Rodgers looks to improve the Bhoys’ status amongst Europe’s elite clubs.
