Celtic great John Hartson has expressed his delight at Shane Duffy’s arrival at the club, speaking on the pay-per-view event of Ross County versus Celtic.

Hartson made his comments before Duffy made his debut in Celtic’s 5-0 win over the Dingwall side kicked off, and the centre-back showed his class by powering home a header to mark his first appearance in style.

“He will make a massive difference”

“I think it’s a signing, Celtic make many a great signing, but it’s a signing this week that’s excited the Celtic fans. They’re really excited with the fact that he’s in his prime, he will make a massive difference to Celtic defensively in the goals we concede, and he’s great to give experience to (Kristoffer) Ajer and to (Christopher) Jullien beside him” Hartson said on Ross County’s pre-match pay-per-view coverage (12/9/20,14:52).

Duffy has already shown what he will bring to Celtic after only 90 minutes. Okay, he did start the game off a bit rusty. After all, he has not played a lot of football recently.

However, he played well enough in his partnership with Ajer and Jullien. Indeed, it could be argued that he was Celtic’s best centre-back on the day.

Attitude towards his goal stood out

What really stood out was Duffy’s attitude towards his goal. He all but pushed Jullien out of the way to get his head onto the end of Callum McGregor’s cross. Duffy then bulleted the header home.

He will be delighted to get that goal. It will mean a lot to him, as he is a well-known Celtic fan. It is still very early days in his Celtic career. However, more performances like the one against Ross County will have Hoops fans demanding that he is signed on a permanent basis.

Celtic’s next game is against St Mirren on Wednesday night. You would imagine that Duffy will be one of the first names on the Celtic team sheet.

Who knows, perhaps he will find the back of the net for the second game in a row, it would not be in the least bit surprising.

In other news, Albian Ajeti is following in the footsteps of a Celtic invincible.
