John Hartson has named two Celtic players he believes will be so important for Brendan Rodgers in the title run-in over the next few weeks.
The former Celtic hero was reviewing Sunday’s win over Livingston and was singing the praises of Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Celtic duo were on goalscoring form with Maeda bagging a hattrick and Kyogo settling the Celtic nerves by scoring the Hoops’ fourth in the 4-2 win when Hartson outlined how pivotal both are for Brendan Rodgers.
Hartson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He took his goals very, very well. It will give him great confidence. We know what he gives the team.
“And also on the weekend, he was there when he needed to score and in the right areas. Took his goals very well and he will be an important player.
“Kyogo will be an important player and I think Brendan needs to use his squad.”
Both players have been major contributors to Celtic’s successes over the two seasons Ange Postecoglou was in charge.
Kyogo netted 50 goals and created 10 assists whilst Maeda has hit 19 goals and 12 assists as the Australian picked up five trophies out of six including the historic treble at the end of last season. [Transfermarkt]
Whilst Meada’s attacking contribution is not as significant as his compatriot, the Japanese winger’s defensive qualities have been superb for Celtic.
His constant pressing and harrying of opponents are just as important as his goals and it is so valuable to the Celtic team.
There is no doubt that both have yet to find the form that the Celtic fans enjoyed during the Postecoglou era but the fans will be hoping that the pair are now starting to find their groove as we head into the final nine games of the season.
