John Higgins is one of Celtic’s famous fans.

The former World Snooker Champion wears his Celtic heart on his sleeve and has never hid his love for the club.

Currently participating in the 2025 World Snooker Championship, Higgins was taking part in a watch-along of the last remaining first round fixtures alongside Ally McCoist after booking his place in the second round earlier his week.

And after hearing McCoist tell him what Ronnie O’Sullivan said about his career, Higgins delivered a superb Celtic quip in reply to last year’s quarter finalist.

John Higgins tells Ronnie O’Sullivan he was ‘having fun’ supporting Celtic

McCoist was co-commentating alongside Higgins on last night’s championship games when he informed Higgins of O’Sullivan’s ‘unbelievable respect’ for him.

McCoist said on TNT Sports Snooker, “The unbelievable respect he had for Stephen [Hendry] and yourself, right?

“One thing I got from the two of them [Judd Trump & Ronnie O’Sullivan] was the unbelievable respect they had for Stephen and yourself, right? And Ronnie said something to the two of us, and he meant as a compliment, by the way, he was singing your praises.

“But what he said was he thought you should have won more. He wasn’t having a go at you. He was actually singing your praises. And he said, with your talent, he thought you could have, in fact, should have won more. How would you take that? Do you think you could have, or should have?”

Higgins: “Possibly, but it’s tough out there, Ally. I mean, it’s tough out there. And as you say, I think us Scots are built different. I think Stephen was the only one out of the Scots that really just flew at everything.

“Normally we are percentage players the way we grew up. So I’ve just never changed that way. And I would love to go and fly at balls the same way Judd and Ronnie do, because it’s it’s amazing to watch, but I’m just not built that way now. So I’ve won what I’ve won in.

“And it’s because I was going to watch Celtic vs Rangers all the time. I wasn’t really practising that much. I was just having a good time.”

Former Crucible World champion John Higgins’ love for Celtic

It’s a little off topic but Higgins love for Celtic is not exactly a secret. Back in 1998, as the current World Champion, the Scottish snooker ace proudly displayed his trophy before Celtic beat St Johnstone to win the title and stop Rangers’ nine-in-a-row.

Back in 2023, Higgins cited ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as a main motivation to try and win the world title again and display the trophy at Celtic Park.

And earlier this season, Higgins even admitted he didn’t want Brendan Rodgers back at Celtic after he said he was still hurting over how he left the club back in 2019.

Every Celtic fan will hope Higgins wins the world title once again but should he make the final this year, he will miss the big Glasgow Derby on the 4th of May. Who’s going to tell him?
