Celtic have officially confirmed the signing of on-loan Benfica winger Jota.

The 23-year-old has agreed a deal to return to the Bhoys on a permanent basis after spending last campaign on loan and signs a five-year contract with the club.

Jota arrived at Parkhead on deadline day of last summer’s window and became a fan’s favourite, impressing with his performances on the wing.

Supporters quickly called for Celtic to tie down the Portuguese under-21 internationalist, with an option-to-buy clause included in Jota’s loan deal.

It has been a busy start to this season’s summer window, but one of the priorities that the Parkhead faithful were keen to see was the return of the tricky winger.

After weeks of rumours and speculation surrounding the deal, Jota is finally here.

Speaking to the club’s website, the winger opened up on why he signed a long-term deal with the Hoops and explained that being at Celtic Park is a ‘tremendous step’ in his career.

He said [Celtic FC]: “I’m feeling great. It’s a tremendous step in my career.

“I’m really happy to have joined Celtic, and I just want to give some joy to the fans, to our team and conquer as many things as we can.

“It was a great experience last season. I already knew, more or less, how big Celtic was, but I think people only realise once you are inside the club and inside the structure.

“With the season that we had with all the winning and all the trophies, I think it was very good for everyone, and I just got to know the club in another perspective, and I just fell in love. So I think it’s a good time to be here, and I just want to develop.”

Jota is here to stay.

This day feels like it has been coming for a few weeks now, but with the delay, some fans were beginning to get a little bit anxious.

However, Jota is here and officially a Celtic player. The support as a whole will have been left absolutely buzzing at that news.

Previously, we have seen successful loan players come and go. But, on this occasion, we have been able to sign the incredibly talented Portuguese wideman and the club deserves great credit for that.

Now, we can look forward to seeing Jota back in the green and white Hoops during the 2022/23 season. I already cannot wait!
