Read MoreReport: Karamoko Dembele leaves Celtic to sign for Ligue 1 club; joins them on Monday
Karamoko Dembele has already signed for Ligue 1 club Stade Brestois 29, French newspaper Le Telegramme has reported today.
The outlet believes that Dembele is the player referenced by Brest sporting director Gregory Lorenzi, who revealed in an interview that an unnamed player will join their pre-season preparations on Monday, having already put pen-to-paper on a contract.
Le Telegramme report it’s the former Celtic talent, who appears to have quietly left the club this summer without fanfare following the expiration of his contract.
The length of his deal with the French club is currently unknown.
Dembele looked ready to push for a first-team place last summer before a serious ankle injury was suffered in pre-season that kept him out for the rest of 2021.
Manager Ange Postecoglou stated his intention to give him opportunities in the second half of last season and that talks would be scheduled on his future, but it seems either the club, player or both parties decided to discontinue the relationship.
Dembele has been a much-hyped talent at the Bhoys for years having made his debut for the U20s development team as an early teenager.
He made his senior debut for the club at just 16 but has gone on to only make 10 appearances, all of them from the bench.
That he leaves the club without making a single start is a disappointment, even if it’s not really anyone’s fault. It simply hasn’t worked out for the player at Celtic.
Perhaps he should have been trusted to feature more, but he hasn’t managed to convince his managers he was ready for that at the Bhoys.
Now 19, he could be set for more senior opportunities in France and we wish him all the best for the rest of his career.
Good luck Karamoko!
