We all know that this season hasn’t been good enough at Celtic.
It has been bad enough that we’re almost certain to see significant changes throughout the football department across 2020.
High-profile players will no doubt be leaving. Neil Lennon is probably on his way at the end of the season too. Big decisions are set to be made.
But who will oversee it all?
Incoming CEO Dominic McKay has a distinct lack of football experience and is probably more likely to have his thumb on the commercial side of the club.
67 Hail Hail has written extensively about the Director of Football role at the club over the last few months. It’s increasingly looking like that will be a model we pursue moving forward.
Journalist Mark Guidi, speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, think it’s a certainty and claims people are already being contacted about the newly created position.
He said: “One thing I think that is going to happen, and that Dom McKay is in total favour of, is the introduction of a Director of Football or Technical Director, whatever you want to call it.
“That process is well underway, well underway, and there are names on the list. I think at least one person has been sounded out, if not interviewed, so that is going to happen for sure. And then the rest of the structure will slowly but surely take place.
“But, all Celtic supporters and all season ticket holders that have put the money into the club will be debating whether they put money into the club next season. They need to know what is happening at their football club.”
Celtic must do research on appointment
The most credible name linked to the post in recent weeks has been Fergal Harkin.
The Donegal man is a respected figure at Manchester City behind the scenes and has past relationships with senior people at Celtic Park.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that this is the person Guidi is talking about on Clyde this week.

Whoever is being earmarked for the post, hopefully, a solid and robust recruitment search has taken place. It shouldn’t be a case of just getting in touch with the most comfortable or available person.
That’s where we went wrong with appointing Neil Lennon as manager in 2019.
In other news, Jim Goodwin has taken aim at Greg Taylor today.
