Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will likely alter his squad in the summer following a campaign that has produced its fair share of highs and lows.

In the January transfer window, the Bhoys failed to upgrade on several key positions and are now left with what they’ve got to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title, whether that be for better or worse.

Yesterday, Rodgers’ side dropped points for the seventh time in 2023/24 following another lacklustre display against Kilmarnock that resulted in a 1-1 draw, which may have ramifications in their bid to claim a third successive league trophy.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s goal on 32 minutes looked like it would be enough to settle the affair; nevertheless, David Watson pounced in injury time to claim a warranted point for the visitors.

Despite having an uncertain future at Parkhead due to his contract expiring at the end of this term, goalkeeper Joe Hart stood out for the hosts, pulling off five stops to save his side from further embarrassment.

Come the summer, Rodgers will have a big decision to make on Hart’s future. The Irishman touched on his situation last month, stating: “We’ll have a chat about it – him and I – towards the end of the season.”

Dean Jones says Celtic should keep hold of ‘heroic’ Joe Hart

Making any decision on a player requires those in charge to weigh up the pros and cons of the situation, and Hart’s long-term status will be no different in that regard when it is eventually dissected.

On the one hand, he is an experienced stopper who has been instrumental in the trophy-winning success at Parkhead over the last couple of years; nevertheless, there are better goalkeepers out there within our price range if Celtic can lay the groundwork to identify them.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones believes that Hart could be worthy of an ‘extended stay’ in Glasgow.

He stated: “Hart is a big game player, we know that. He’s somebody who’s had a very distinguished career. I’m never shocked when he produces heroic displays, but, of course, it’s still something for the club to consider whether they go on and keep him.

“Is there a chance he could be worth an extended stay? You watch him, and you think he actually might be.”

Celtic will leave Joe Hart decision for as long as possible

It is unlikely that any information will come to light on Hart’s future at present amid the club’s ongoing fight for the Scottish Premiership title.

Both the player and the club will be fully focused on trying to counter the malaise that has set in at Parkhead due to a spate of unacceptable recent performances.

One thing is certain: Rodgers and the powers at Celtic will have a big decision to make when weighing up whether to prolong Hart’s time between the sticks.
