Julian Araujo names the one thing that has pleasantly surprised him since joining Celtic

In a season full of changes and struggles, Julian Araujo has been a positive for Celtic.

Signed on loan from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, the Mexican’s world was turned upside down when Wilfried Nancy was sacked days after making him his first signing for the Hoops.

That didn’t deter him and the full-back has become an instant fan favourite at Celtic Park, competing with Colby Donovan and Anthony Ralston to make the spot his.

Araujo has started every league game under Martin O’Neill and got better with each one that has passed by.

Since moving to Glasgow, the full-back has had plenty of encounters with Celtic fans, and they have left a lasting impression on him.

Julian Araujo on meeting Celtic fans

Meeting Celtic fans isn’t the most difficult of tasks when living in Glasgow. We are everywhere, and Araujo has been fortunate enough to meet many of them.

While he probably knew that he’d be welcomed with open arms, the 24-year-old admitted he has been taken aback by how friendly everyone has been.

“I think that’s probably one of the things that I’ve most noticed, is how friendly the people are and how accepting they are,” he said.

“Everywhere I go, there’s a Celtic fan. So I’ve been recognised everywhere. But I think my teammates have been very, very helpful in this adjustment.”

Does Julian Araujo want to join Celtic permanently?

Araujo has probably already done enough to earn himself a permanent contract already and the 24-year-old hasn’t ruled out the idea of extending his stay.

He said: “Football’s crazy, anything can happen. I’ve been happy here, I’m enjoying my football and I let my agent handle the rest.

“But of course I’ve been happy here. Obviously it’s a good city, good club, good people most importantly.

“I think at the end of the day I just want to play football and the rest my agent can handle.”
