Celtic duo Kasper Schmeichel and Greg Taylor have taken to Instagram after both played a leading role in yesterday’s dominant victory against Hibernian.

The Bhoys continued their excellent early season form without too many complications and raced into an early lead after Daizen Maeda diverted home from Reo Hatate’s centre inside four minutes.

Nicolas Kuhn took his turn as provider for the second, lofting an excellent ball over the Hibernian backline that Japan international Maeda latched onto before doubling the hosts’ advantage.

Mykola Kukharevych pulled the visitors back into the clash with a sublime header before half-time. Nevertheless, Celtic remained in control and capped a comfortable afternoon when Kuhn capitalised on Hibernian’s poor attempt to play out from the back after closing down Josef Bursik.

Falkirk now await in the last eight for the Bhoys, who will be optimistic as they seek to reach Hampden for the first time this season.

Kasper Schmeichel’s excitement at facing his old club

Earlier in his career, Celtic goalkeeper Schmeichel spent six months on loan at Falkirk, enjoying a successful initial spell in Scottish football before returning to Manchester City in 2007.

Taking to Instagram post-match, the 37-year-old thanked the Celtic support for their continuous backing against Hibernian and acknowledged his old club ahead of facing the Bairns in the quarter-final.

He stated: ‘Big thanks to the fans for the support today! Look forward to meeting my old team Falkirk in the next round..’ on the social media platform.

There is a poetic element to Schmeichel having the opportunity to face one of the clubs that helped him gain first-team recognition before he went on to have a distinguished career in football.

Hopefully, the veteran can enjoy the occasion while helping Celtic take one step closer to claiming the first trophy of the season.

Greg Taylor’s simple assessment after Hibernian victory

Following another confident display, Taylor took to Instagram to share his reaction after helping the Bhoys progress into the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final, writing ‘Job done’ (with a tick emoji attached).

The Scotland international excelled at left back, helping to limit Martin Boyle’s involvement and striding into midfield on several occasions while inverted.

Taylor’s contract situation at Celtic remains unresolved. Now into the last year of his deal, it will be intriguing to see if both parties can agree on extended terms.

Starting the campaign with three solid performances, the former Kilmarnock man is a player the club should look to retain to avoid losing his services on a free transfer next summer.
