Kasper Schmeichel on Celtic fans amid possible protest

Celtic host Braga in the Europa League on Thursday night, and there is a planned silent protest, but Schmeichel told his presser that he ‘completely understands’ where those paying for their tickets are coming from.

The former Leicester City and Manchester City keeper also explained that there has been ‘nothing quite like’, in his career, playing at Celtic Park in front of a packed house.

Schmeichel explained that it’s so good that, when he is lining up before the game, he ‘always looks at the opposition bench to see their reaction’, because it’s so ‘special.’

“Well, listen, I completely understand the fans’ frustrations,” said Schmeichel. “All I will say is, we have the most incredible fans.

“Whether it’s Champions League, Scottish League or the Europa League. When we line up, I always look at the opposition bench and see their reaction. That just always tells me that this is special.

“I have played in a lot of places, a lot of stadiums, and there’s nothing quite like this. So, for us, as players, it’s something we definitely don’t take for granted.

“For me, personally, the career I’ve had, there is nothing more motivating than coming out at this pitch here, full stadium with that noise.”

Schmeichel’s message to the Celtic fans

Yes, there is a lot of annoyance and anger at Celtic not reaching the Champions League, but there is a chance the club can go far in the Europa League.

Celtic drew their opening match away in Belgrade, and ahead of the first home game of this competition, this is what Schmeichel had to say to those attending.

“I completely understand the frustration,” added Schmeichel. “I completely understand the fans wanting to voice their opinions, but also, we need you. That would be my message. We need you.

“It’s up to us, of course, to go and produce. To get that noise and get that energy in the stadium.

“But that’s one of our biggest strengths, which is the support that we have. So, as many small advantages as we can get, we need to take.”
