Kasper Schmeichel may have kept a clean sheet on Wednesday night.
But it would have meant little to him given Celtic did not secure an advantage in the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Kairat Almaty.
The Hoops failed to score at Parkhead for the first time in 47 matches as the Kazakhstan side delivered a resolute defensive performance.
Celtic were not clever or quick enough to break them down, and fans grew frustrated inside the stadium as they chanted ‘sack the board’ during and after the 0-0 draw.
Schmeichel asks angry Celtic fans to be ‘patient’
Schmeichel would have heard the chanting from supporters and he was quizzed on how that makes him feel as an experienced member of the Celtic squad.
He praised the fans first and foremost, but asked supporters to be patient with regards to new signings arriving before the transfer deadline.
Schmeichel said at his Friday press conference: “That’s our biggest strength, our support. The passion of the fans here is unrivalled. And you know, I understand their frustration and expectation.
“But what you’ve got to realise is football is not just as simple as going out spending and buying, it’s a complicated process.
“And I have every faith the club are trying everything they can to progress and to strengthen in the way they want to strengthen. But football isn’t just that easy.
“I understand the impatience of it, we all want success and we all want things here and now. But it’s a process.
“And for us as players, we’ve got to go and do our job on the pitch. And when I look at the quality that we already have in the dressing room, we’ve got more than enough.
“Any additions that do or don’t come, that’s up to them. I’ve full confidence in them (the board). There’s a reason Celtic have been successful for such a long period of time – it’s because they do know what they’re doing.
“So yeah, I think just a bit of patience and we’ll see.”
Celtic missing injured trio for Livingston clash
Schmeichel is expected to start in between the sticks for Celtic for their Scottish Premiership encounter with Livingston on Saturday.
However, he will be without teammates Alistair Johnston, Adam Idah and Auston Trusty, as confirmed by Brendan Rodgers.
Johnston will be out for 12 weeks with a hamstring injury, while Idah and Trusty have knee and foot problems respectively.
