Kelechi Iheanacho has been a professional for a decade now, but he has never felt the pressure like the one he will feel at Celtic in the coming months.
The 28-year-old, who played for Manchester City, Leicester City, Middlesbrough, and Sevilla during his career, joined Celtic after the 2025 summer transfer window slammed shut as a free agent.
The champions of Scotland are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but sometimes, those from the outside need to experience what is inside to get a true reflection of what it’s like.
That seems to be the case with Iheanacho after he first stepped inside Celtic.

Kelechi Iheanacho on noticing Celtic’s trophy haul
Celtic are the most successful club in Scotland, winning 120 trophies, including the most famous of them all – the 1967 European Cup.

Iheanacho, who was speaking to Celtic TV for his first official interview, seemingly didn’t realise the volume of trophies that have been won by the Hoops.
The versatile forward explained that when he started looking at Celtic’s trophy haul, he quickly realised that all of this is ‘normal’ for those in the famous green and white.
Celtic TV presenter: ‘Winning trophies is what Celtic is all about. How do you feel about having the responsibility now of scoring the goals that will get us some more trophies and get you some more medals?’
Iheanacho: “Yeah, funnily enough, when I came in here, I just looked at the, I saw the trophies they have won.
“I’ve just seen like, 50 something or 20 something, like a lot of trophies for them. It looks like, it is like something normal for the club. So, they are used to winning trophies as well. So, they’re comfortable doing that.
“Hopefully, I’ll be part of that great thing here to join them and win trophies. Yeah, so I’ll be happy to be part of it and, of course, to help and play my part to help the team to do that.”
Iheanacho on being part of ‘very massive’ Celtic
Even though Celtic are champions, they have won 13 out of the last 14, and are top of the table after four matches, the pressure and expectation is still as great as in the previous campaign.
But Iheanacho understands what it’s going to take to win silverware at a ‘very massive club’ like Celtic.
“Obviously, to win something, or to get something, you need to work your socks off, and you need to work really hard to get it,” added Iheanacho.
“They have done it over the years, every single year they keep doing it, keep winning trophies, so they are a very massive, massive club. A massive city, so I’m happy to be here.”
